Incarceration and Reentry

My current research is the basis of my dissertation titled “Formerly Incarcerated Women and Institutional Interactions”. I examine how formerly incarcerated women navigate various institutions (e.g., labor market, housing, child protective services) while incarcerated and during the reentry period.

Education and Inequality

The Impact of Suspension in Participation in School-Based Extracurricular Activities and Out-of-School Community Service
This study investigates the link between suspension (i.e., in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, or both) and youth participation in extracurricular activities, both in-school and outside of school. The results provide insights into how suspensions may function as a 'pushout' mechanism for youth by compromising their attachment to school. The findings from this study are forthcoming in the Social Science Research Journal.

The Role of Social Class In
Educational Attainment: Do Blacks Benefit Less from Increases in Social Class Status

This study addresses the intergenerational transmission of human capital to youths’ academic outcomes. The findings from this study are
published in the Sociology of Race and Ethnicity Journal.
